summer playlist 2008
2008-07-04 | 11:28 a.m.

my playlist was perfect! so perfect i decided to explain the reason why i've chosen the songs i've chosen. song for song. enjoy:

time for heroes - the libertines
this song reminds me of my dear friend. he loves this song and sings it all the time. even when we're biking in the forest. hehe.

man under the sea - patrick watson
this one's just great!

fireworks - the whitest boy alive
no summer playlist without the whitest booy alive. period! this is the third summer they appear on my list.

hov (det analogisk) - analogik
i'm getting more and more in to these guys. can't wait to september where they are playing at flles studiestart (more about this later on).

flakes - mystery jets
a friend of mine mentioned them a lot a couple of years ago...but i didn't get into them until recently when this song appeared on a compilation. they're really lovely.

no ones gonna love you - band of horses
the lyrics in this song...mmm. i got the record for my birthday as you may recall. i dig it!

earth intruders (mark stent extended edit) - bjrk
i really like the rhythms going on in this song.

whatever happened to my rock and roll - black rebel motorcycle club
yay! rock'n'roll when it's best. there's something summery over this band as well. maybe it's the fact that they are from california?!

coeur de lion - the blue van
i re-discovered this band last weekend when i was going nuts about not having an ipod. they really rock!

kolmilan - snake and jet's amazing bullit band
of course the greatest band i discovered at the spot festival has to be mentioned on this list as well.

004 - the good the bad
this song reminds me of a great evening at pitstop. they're pretty rare these days.

girl - beck
again...i like the rhythm and things going on in this song + beck's voice have always made a special impact on me. don't know why.

girl from the north country - bob dylan
lovely song!

ever fallen in love (with someone you shouldn't have) - the buzzcocks
the title says it all i think. cool song though.

if looks could kill - camera obscura
great melody. very summery as well.

janie jones - the clash
no list without the clash...of course.

just shake it brother - junior senior
junior senior IS summer. all the time. joy, happiness, sunshine and especially dancing.

drive-in saturday - david bowie
they play this song in the intro scene of 'control'. it's very nice. i've cheated and also put on jean genie on the list as well...couldn't decide. i really love that record.

hippy's son - dirty pretty things
when i had a trip with the libertines last year i of course stumbled acroess dirty pretty things and babyshambles as well. carl reminds me of a certain person. and this song is from their new album which i can't wait to get my fingers on hopefully next week.

visit from the dead dog - ed harcourt
he is my favorite forever. and this song reminds me of one of my other dear dear friends.

the air we breathe - figurines
this song is very beach boys like aka very summery and i can't wait till they play it in the student house in september.

put a penny in the slot - fionn regan
the lyrics to this song are so lovely. again...they say it all...kind of.

the jacket - first floor power
i really dig this melody.

skip to the end - the futureheads
very catchy.

stranger - gladys knight & the pips
again a song where the lyrics and especially the chorus says everything! very catchy as well. gotta looove that soul music.

this summer's been good from the start - gorky's zygotic mynci
the same friend who mentioned mystery jets also mentioned this band...aaa lot to me. they are really lovely as well. plus they constantly reminds me of him...so it's not always i'm able to listen to them for very long at a time. but it happens.

the years - green lives
for a long time i thought it was a member from raconteurs other band...but man i was wrong. they are called the greenhornes. haha. but this song by the green lives isn't so bad...although the band is danish.

soul galore - jackie wilson
i have an idea about attending a northern soul club night once. this song both reminds me of him but also of my dear girl-friend who's always attending these northern soul club nights.

heavy weather - jarvis cocker
there's something very fascinating about that man. both his voice and his appearance. a friend of mine is looking so much like him that it's sometime scary. that friend is also a huge fan of pulp but i'm not sure it's on purpose with the look alike thing. i love jarvis' solo record 'cause his voice is so nice on that one so of course he had to be a part of this summer's playlist. yay! (note: although i like jarvis solo i'm not so fond of his voice in his pulp days, of certain reasons. which is a shame...i know. i like the pulp)

purple haze - johnny jones
even more soul...yeah! i can't figure out if this is a cover of jimi hendrix or vice versa...but it's sure a really great version of the song. especially the 'uh ah' part of it. heh. makes you wanna dance.

fine - larsen & furious jane
one of the more positive numbers from this very fine band. although the lyrics tells quite another story but the whole feeling about the song is positive and i like that. i'm still waiting for their new record on vinyl which a friend of mine wanted to give me for my birthday but i hope to receive it soon.

north american scum (radio edit) - lcd soundsystem
this song reminds me of my now former room-mate. she really digged this band and made me like this number as well.

sweet jane - velvet underground
no summer playlist without a velvet underground from the legendary record 'loaded'. period!

superhero songwriters - malcolm middleton
oh the charming scots guy who's been sneaking up on my top 20 (last.fm) the past year. i have a passion for songs lasting longer than 5 minutes with a great lyric, melody and a beautiful b-part (?) you just don't want to end. he's also reminding me of this friend who mentioned both gorky's and mystery jets. but this song is mine!

shadowplay - joy division
i thought i had the killers version of this song which is the credits-song in 'control'. but figured out that the original is just as good if not better. joy division reminds me of this above mentioned friend as well...although the song a means to an end is the song reminding me the most...the lyrics once again. joy division was a great band and i'm glad that i've finally given them a chance.

young folks - peter bjorn and john
a really great feel-good song. *whistles*

aly, walk with me - the raveonettes
it's not my favourite band. but i must say their latest record rocks big time. especially this song which reminds me of this guy i met at a concert back in may because he wrote a review of the record on his blog.

sons of - scott walker
i love this song! it makes you wanna spin around with your hands in the air while singing along. it also reminds me of a dear friend of mine who's very fond of scott's music and was also the one who introduced me to it.

get your self together - the small faces
hey...i haven't got any beatles song on this list...?! wow. well..this song reminds me of the above mentioned friend as well (middleton, gorky's, libertines etc.) because the small faces is one of the bands who influenced paul weller (the jam)...yeah...you do the math. i like the 60's sound!

not a dj - turboweekend
this one is for mr. t. he and i went nuts when turboweekend played at the student house. we'd had a really rough day and night. so when the band finally got on the stage we sang along and danced like crazy. especially this song because he put it on repeat once and told me he digged it.

the rat - the walkmen
again again again the above mentioned friend in mind...no further comments.

you should be someone else - when saints go machine
a very catchy song. but they are very boring live. but this song will surely be played more than one time during this summer.

science is religion - the william blakes
very catchy song as well. it reminds me of this danish singer who's appearing in the music video to the song.

see you at the lights - the 1990's
again...no further comments.

i should make more playlists. it's easier when you walk around outside and you don't have to speculate on which number might be the next.
