some years ago (6 years i think) a well known of mine introduced me to the band mogwai. i immediately fell in love with the number 'mogwai fear satan'...but it was somehow like i wasn't ready for their music at that time, so i kind of forgot about them again. they have popped up here and there since though...especially because this well known of mine is a really huge fan of them. but it wasn't until yesterday when i found this mixed cd in box at my office that i started listening to them again...and yes...now i've really fallen in love! mmm. listen...!

i watched a web chat thing yesterday evening between the brilliant malcolm middleton and his fans...there were some really weird questions and answers here and there..but it was entertaining. someone asked this question with reference to the song 'devil and the angel' from the '5:14 flouxytine seagull alcohol john nicotine' album :
"How are you feeling about your own writing just now? When you wake up are there currently Angels or Devils with you?"
and malcolm answered:
"I have confidence in my writing but the Devils are always there and always louder. It's not about not writing shit songs anymore, it's about keeping some meaning and purpose to them. Unless they're designed to be throwaway, then that's ok. I dunno, music shouldn't be talked about by people like me..."
later on:
"You mentioned earlier that 'Music shouldn't be talked about by people like me' What did you mean by that?"
malcolm:
"Unqualified idiots. People who never actually think about it on an intelligent level."

i admit the first answer made me laugh a bit... but the last part made me think...when are you an intelligent musician?! can't you be an intelligent musician even though you haven't studied the thing ?! i mean...malcolm is a guy who has played music for over a decade and has experienced tons of things in the music industry especially with his now former band, arab strap...and then he go and say such thing...but hey...there is a difference between artistic and intelligent ways of thinking about music...aren't there ?! - well...i'm sure it isn't up to me to solve this question as i do not play music myself and doesn't have a clue about how it is to create music all by yourself...so who am i to judge?!

not much is happening around here. charlotte has gone home to her parents and will stay up there for at least a week. tobias is at his parents as well...so as i say...not much is happening around here. but in a couple of days trine and marlene will be around kolding and that's going to be nice. so until then i'll have to finish up my assignment in narratology and start studying for my much dreaded and hated re-examination in language and literature theory and rock my pants out to mogwai and malcolm middleton. yiir! what a way to spend your weekend huh?!
