the most beautiful song in the world
2008-12-16 | 3:23 p.m.

i've followed this blog lately (sorry, it's in danish). it's been very inspiring in some weird ways...at least for me it's been a great source to new music now when A and i do not make our daily top 5's anymore (rip)...

anyways...they brought up a category the other day called 'the world's most beautiful song ever' where we (readers) were introduced to this little treasure:

cinematic orchestra feat. patrick watson - 'to build a home'

which reminded me of why i fell in love with patrick watson's frail voice...it's indescribable beautiful! and i'm sure 'to build a home' wouldn't be as beautiful without watson's lovely voice. i know i've introduced you to the man or his music in here before(i do not remember which song the other song was and don't mind the dedication...it doesn't count anymore)...but here's the song that lead my attention to him in the first place...

patrick watson - 'the great escape'

i'm not sure what i would like to call 'the world's most beautiful song ever'. hmmm... one of the subscribers to the above mentioned blog mentioned the first song ever which made her cry...oh well...the first song that did that to me, was (surprise surprise!) 'kings garden' by tim christensen...but that's at least 7 years ago...i know there's been a couple of songs to bring up tears in my eyes since then...but hey! does the quality of a song that makes you cry automatically make the song the most beautiful in the world?! i'm not sure of that...'cause it often depends on the circumstances as well. i recently sent A a 'song's that gives me the shivers' top 5 which looked like this:
1. 'centrefolds' by placebo - they dedicated the song when i saw them live in copenhagen some years ago to the at that time recent departed nina simone. it gave me the shivers all over!
2. 'california' by josh ritter - he performed that song without any amplifiers and stood right in front of me. shivers! (think i've told you about this experience in here before)
3. 'hallelujah' by damien rice - if you ask me, this is the most beautiful version of that song.
4. 'do you realize?' by the flaming lips - every time i see them live and they play this song i get the shivers and smile big time. it's such an optimistic song!
5. 'cripple and the starfish' by antony and the johnsons - no further comments.

so you could ask yourself...does the quality of a song that gives you the shivers automatically make the song 'the most beautiful in the world'?! - oh well...i do not have the answer. and come to think of it i'm not sure if i've heard 'the world's most beautiful song' yet. i'm sure you know deep down when you stumble across 'the most beautiful song in the world'. and when that happens, i will let you know for sure! in the meantime...enjoy my numbero uno on my top 5 of 'song's that gives me the shivers'. a video made with clips from one of my absolute favourite movies:

'centrefolds' - placebo
