ten best records released in 2006
2006-12-25 | 2:17 a.m.

okay so everybody is making "top-best-of-2006-lists" at the moment. i wanna play too. so here's my top ten over the best albums released in 2006 if you ask me:

1. ed harcourt - "the beautiful lie"
ed harcourt - the beautiful lie
that man is brilliant! such a shame i didn't get to see him live this year. dammit!

2. the whitest boy alive - "dreams"
whiitest boy alive - dreams
such a cool record. i love love love it.

3. teitur - "stay under the stars"
teitur - stay under the stars
a really cosy record. he's so lovely. though he has disappointed this year, he is now forgiven and all is dandy again.

4. wolfmother - "wolfmother"
wolfmother
seriously. they rocked my summer! they were the greatest act at roskilde festival. they kick ass!

5. whirlwind heat - "types of wood"
whirlwind heat - types of wood
that record has meant a great deal to me this year. they actually was the band who opened my eyes/ears to british bands and is a great part of the reason why i'm digging british bands from the 70's at the moment.

6. grizzly bear - "yellow house"
grizzly bear - yellow house
it's like no matter what they make, they are lovely. i love those bears. i'm so sad that they had to cancel their gig here in denmark... they are the discovery of the year when it comes to bands who've released something this year!

7. raconteurs - "broken boy soldiers"
raconteurs - broken boy soldier
one of the great records of the summer as well. they made the second best gig at roskilde festival. though i couldn't bear to listen to the album for several weeks after the festival because of personal reasons, they are now on a return. they rock! and i love the geeky 'little jack'.

8. damien Rice - "9"
damien rice - 9
beauuuutiful!

9. the flaming lips - "at war with the mystics"
flaming lips - at war with the mystics
one of the best gigs i've been to this year! they are soooo great! it's not their best record (i like yoshimi better) but it's still amongst the best ones i own from this year.

10. josh ritter - "the animal years"
josh ritter - animal years
you gotta love this man. though if you ask me this isn't the best record he has made. but he still means a lot to me. i still get all warm inside thinking back on his gig in may this year. i'm 'his strawberry in his daiquiri'. heh.

bubbles:
josh rouse - "subtitulo"
sparklehorse - "dreamt for light years in the belly of a mountain"
sondre lerche and the faces down quartet - "duper sessions" (if you ask me he is way too underrated)
jack johnson and friends - "sing-a-longs and lullabies for the film curious george"
regina spektor - "begin to hope"(this one has meant a lot to me this year but it didn't make it to the list because i can't listen to it anymore)

something that makes me really angry, is how a lot of music magazines proclaim arctic monkeys - "whatever people say i am, that's what i'm not" as the best album this year...all i can say...is that i really don't get the hype about them. it's not like they have a new or unique sound. they sound like a lot of underrated bands mixed together and they've just been lucky that the mainstream public digs it. the only magazine i know that hasn't proclaimed the same as all the others, is MOJO. it must be the coolest magazine ever and i'm a subscriber! woo. another thing is that many of the albums that appears on the different lists in general this year, doesn't mean anything to me...
